THE
VISION - COMMUNITY BUILDING
The Yoga Farms mission
is to create a conscious spiritual community based on the practice of
Yogic Lifestyle. The community will be open to all who want to visit
even if they are unfamiliar with yogic lifestyle or do not practice it.
There is neither specific dogma nor any specific spiritual teacher at
The Yoga Farm. Rather, the path of community will be co-created by the
people who come to the farm. The highest vision that the community will
work towards will be to co-create a space where people can feel welcome,
well received, a part of, contributing to, appreciated, loved. in
essence, to create community. The ultimate vision of the community will
be to do meaningful work in the world that makes a contribution and a
positive difference! This can be as simple as creating a sacred space
within the community that people can be supported by. The Ultimate
Vision can also extend outwards to work with the greater community of
the immediate surrounding area, to the world. The possibilities are
endless; the power of intentional community working together can open
all sorts of opportunities.
Our goal
is to become fully self-sufficient as a way to support long-term
community by:
-
Further
developing organic food production on the land through several
techniques including permaculture. The food production plan includes
planting more fruit trees, vegetable gardens, raising animals, etc.
-
Exploring
cottage industries that can produce income such as craft production.
-
Hosting
retreats and receiving guests for yoga vacations.
The Yoga
Farm is firmly committed to using alternative and eco-friendly practices
whenever possible including solar power, organic farming, composting
toilets, reduction of waste products, recycling, etc.
As part
of our commitment to the environment, we ask that guests use
biodegradable personal care products. In consideration of those
guest and members who are sensitive to artificial fragrances in soaps
and cleaning products, we ask that you avoid whenever possible using
products that are scented artificially.
FOR PEOPLE
INTERESTED IN A LONGER TERM RELATIONSHIP WITH THE YOGA FARM
Thank you
for having an interest in The Yoga Farm. The farm is over five years old
now and these past years has been a very full, where the place has seen
a lot of growth in many forms. This growth has happened through the
manifestation of lots of building of our beautiful main yoga house, also
we have done lots of work on the gardens and grounds, we also have two
other buildings, one a kitchen dinning space and the other a private
residence. The farm has also had about 500 people visit and stay !
Through this time we have experienced much joy and even more challenges.
Building Vision is rewarding and challenging, we have found ourselves
going through lots, at times we had great faith and Vision and several
times the faith that was inside of us was inaccessible, only to be
re-found once again through surrender, growth and service. I cannot tell
you how challenging yet more so rewarding it has been to experience
growth through the process of loosing ones faith and finding the place
in ones heart to renew that faith inside.
We
warmly welcome you to explore The Yoga Farm in any way as a place to
visit or as a home. TYF is a beautiful place, with beautiful people
visiting, surrounded by breathtaking nature, and full of Vision and
plans to be of service and make a positive difference in the world. Many
people come to the farm with utopist visions and aspirations (myself
included). The reality of life at TYF is that it is a full life, full of
rewards and challenges. At times my heart has felt very open and at
times I felt frustrated. My experience has shown me that life at TYF is
no better nor any worse than life anywhere, the experiences I manifest
whether they be challenging or full of love and inner peace are the same
process as anywhere else I have been.
“The
community” of The Yoga Farm, is less typical than that of most
intentional communities. We see our community as our neighbors and
friends; Costa Ricans of Spanish decent, the indigenous friends that
live in the nearby reserve, the foreigners living in our area
(Americans, Canadians, Europeans etc.. ) Also many people visit us as
guests, some people come over and over and we have become close friends.
We have had volunteers, both as Yoga Teachers and in other areas, come
and come again over many years. Some people have lived with us as a
volunteer for over a year. There is also a core Family that are the
founders of The Yoga Farm that presently live half the year there and
half the year in Canada. Plus there are our full time caregivers a
lovely Costa Rican family that live there when the founders are not
there and work there year round. All these people are part of our Yoga
Farm family or “our community”, all of these friends are welcome back to TYF at any time, they simply need to show up and there is a place for
them with us.
There is
no formal process in becoming part of our community, we ask people to
make arrangements to show up either as a guests or if there is a space,
as a volunteer. We have found that the best friendships we have made
with people, is when we both enter into an agreement that is shorter
term at first, from there we are open to all possibilities and we have
found that it is best to simply let the relationship evolve and grow
organically over time.
I hope I
have offered you a realistic view of life at The Yoga Farm, and welcome
your questions and interest. Mostly we extend a warm welcome to you to
come and visit and experience the farm for all it offers, the beauty,
the people, the Vision and most importantly the opportunity to grow
inside through all of life's experiences.
